VISIONI METAFISICHE
Vasco Ascolini meets Canova, Thorvaldsen, and De Chirico
The Bagatti Valsecchi Museum and the Pasquale Battista Foundation present the first anthological exhibition in Milan dedicated to the photographer Vasco Ascolini.
The exhibition pays tribute to the Emilian artist by retracing his production through a selection of over seventy of his most significant works dedicated to ancient sculpture.
Vasco Ascolini's photographs dialogue with works from the past, such as small marble heads, plaster sculptures by Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen, and paintings by Giorgio De Chirico. The exhibition aims to emphasize the dialectic between the ancient and the contemporary, recreating in the museum halls that metaphysical atmosphere pursued by the photographer from Reggio.
The Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, increasingly attentive to dialogues between ancient and contemporary—already inherent in the nineteenth-century approach of the Bagatti Valsecchi brothers—places the selected works within its captivating permanent collection, inviting visitors to embark on a journey through memories, theater, and metaphysics.
