The home of Mario Praz (Rome 1896 - 1982), an Anglicist and
art critic, has been open to the public since June 1995. Displayed in a series
of rooms of markedly 19th-century stamp is the multifarious collection
assiduously put together by the scholar over a period of more than sixty years.
The ambience thus created offers a refined and highly personal interpretation
of the period, from Neoclassicism to Biedermaier. Furniture, paintings,
sculptures, etchings, water-colours, carpets, drawings, and miniatures, not to
mention fans, wax models, glass and semi-precious stones acquired on the
European antiques market, have been gathered together in this Roman house with
the intention of recreating the elegance and the taste of an era.
