In 1903, the Genoese Luxoro family of artists and collectors
had a villa rebuilt in a then celebrated coastal resort. Housed in the
building today, against the verdant backdrop of its beautiful gardens, is a
major art collection. It is presented to the public in a way that leaves
intact all evidence of the villa's former use as a private home.
Paintings, clocks, ceramics, silverware, crib statuettes, pieces of furniture
and numerous furnishing accessories are now displayed in the rooms the owners
had decorated to provide a worthy setting for their prized possessions. A
common denominator of many items in this vast and varied collection, which
includes drawings and prints, is the period they date back to: generally the
late 17th and 18th centuries, the Luxoros' "favorites."
