The first inheritance, with financial provisions, received by FAI (Fondazione Ambiente Italiana) is a building in the historic center of Lavagna. It is a coherent example of domestic fin-de-siè architecture characterized, inside and out, by its typical Ligurian character. Rich in furnishings and then-contemporary paintings, the Carbone house preserves in an exceptional manner a domestic ambiance of a bourgeoise Ligurian family of the 20th century before "the needs of our civilization de-personalized our homes," to cite the words of the brothers Emanuele and Siria Carbone, the last inhabitants of the house, who donated it to FAI.
